"I've got a Million Dollars in the bank..."

"...what you got!?" That is what Joaquin Phoenix said to a fan at his latest show, and a whole lotta deleted expletives as you can hear, before stage diving on the dude and having at it. Now, many folks I know with insider status, tell me that Sir Phoenix is merely playing a part, and that he and his filmmaker cohorts are doing their best to make it all seem as "real" as possible, hence there is no official word as to… Continue

Revved up like a douche...

What song lyrics had you baffled, or singing something totally different until you read the lyrics? I was blinded like so many to Manfred Mann's Earth Band's version of Bruce Springsteen's tune, Blinded by the Light - thinking the lyric went as follows:

Blinded by the light, revved up like a douche, to a rumor in the night...

when it actually went:

...revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night...

Well, at least that is how they sang it. Springsteen's original lyri… Continue

Stanley Jordan

I was just a lad when I saw Stanley Jordan play a solo show at the Bottom Line in NYC... and was lucky enough to sit front and center, literally at his feet, and could really watch his fretwork. I was totally transfixed by his technique, his tone, and his punctuality... (just seeing if you're paying attention... ;)

Hang in there, and you will hear the familiar melody of Eleanor Rigby. Stick around a little longer to watch him extend… Continue

Love Slip Upon Ya

From the album, Fire on the Bayou, dropped in 1975 like a funkalicious bomb by the Meters - straight outta NOLA.

Intro'd to me tonight by the host of Lava Lamp Shade, John Purcell, on WZBC Boston. Check out the show from 10-12 midnight, on Sunday night... streamed on the internet live... you can pick it up by heading over here and choosing your speed.

With a billing of "Late 60's thru late 70's. A melange of retro grooves - genre… Continue

Bale Boogie

I'm kind of with Christian Bale on this one: I have done some (very little) student amateur film acting (no not that kind of amateur varietal you dirty bastard) but can say from those experiences alone, that when someone on set walks in to your site line during a take, it is _really distracting - I can only imagine how a pro feels that is trying to shoot a difficult scene, and there is a ton of money on the line and things are costing like 20K a minute or whatever ... the pres… Continue

That's great news about the CD - glad you're digging it - and hopefully Jack will allow you to post some stuff here - that will be way cool.

The CD is the exact same version that I have; same mastering, same slip cover, same everything. I'm in the process of contacting Dragonetti to see if I can post some tracks. Expect some blogage to appear in the coming days. Thanks again!

Thanks for the compliment! I took the photo near MIT on my daily walk to Anna's Taqueria (in the student center). I passed that building on a nearly daily basis and it always called out to me. Something about the lines/forms/contrast.

jb, Couldn't find the page that you referenced, but the highest peaked "recorded" single for Springsteen was "Dancin' in the Dark" which only reached # 2. Keep in mind, that I'm talking about Billboard Top 100 - not the genre based sub charts. My...

was surprised when you stated "...this garbled version some four years later went to # 1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart, and is the only penned Springsteen song ever to reach # 1 - oddly enough." According to the Artist Chart History at billboard....
